Centurion Group Sale Report – April 2019

The sale offered 32 MV accredited, Signet recorded Dorset breeding ewes and rams.

The sale was preceded by the “Selection Day event” when the best ram presented is chosen by secret ballot. It used to be that this ram was then “bought” as the Group Reference Sire and semen from it used across all members flocks. Most recently the rams are put up for sale by auction to all at the day.

Lot 17, a Sherborne ram lamb with a top 5% terminal index from Robert Hole (990:B05295) was chosen as the Centurion Ram of the Year. Out of a Sherborne ewe and Sherborne Arrow, he beat a Poorton ram lamb (359:B0832) from Francis Fooks and pen-mate (990:B05578) also from the Hole family who placed second and third respectively.

Top price of the day went to the Rossiter family with their ram lamb (A26:B16164), sired by homebred ram Huish Excalibur, making 880gns. The earlier placed Centurion Ram of the Year (990:B05295) sold for 600gns.

21 high index males were put forward for sale selling at an average price of 519gns with over 65% clearance.

In the female section, lot 38, a shearling ewe from the Dufosee family (D26:A03886) sired by Blackhill Windjammer took first place and female top price of 300gns. Lot 29, a ewe lamb presented by the South Ham flock (E04:B00019) with both maternal and terminal indexes in the top 1% also sold for 300gns.

11 females were put forward for sale with 91% clearance and average price of 233gns
