Case Studies

Using bulls, whose performance has been recorded for commercially important traits such as growth rate, muscle depth and birth weight, can improve carcase quality, reduce finishing time and enhance the ease of calving.

Results from four trials carried out at Harper Adams University since the year 2000 are attached below and they clearly demonstrate the physical and financial benefits of looking at figures such as Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) and Breeding Indexes when selecting sires for mating.
